The Leipzig Scientific Unit for Research in heart Valve disease and InfectiVe Endocarditis (L-SURVIVE Research Group) is a scientific group specialized in clinical and basic science research that aims to improve the outcomes of patients with heart valve disease and infective endocarditis. Furthermore, one of the primary goals of the L-SURVIVE group is to increase the body of randomized evidence of surgical therapies for the treatment of heart valve diseases and infective endocarditis. The L-SURVIVE group operates under the umbrella of the University Department of Cardiac Surgery at the Leipzig Heart Center and Leipzig University. It is led by Dr. Mateo Marin-Cuartas and PD Dr. Philipp Kiefer, with Prof. Michael Borger serving as senior advisor.
The L-SURVIVE working group comprises a multidisciplinary, multicultural, and diverse team of highly qualified and experienced clinicians and scientists. Our research group undertakes multiple self-initiated research projects and participates in national and international collaborations, resulting in active engagement with the cardiovascular scientific community and a significant contribution to the literature in the areas of heart valve disease and infective endocarditis. The University Department of Cardiac Surgery at the Leipzig Heart Center is a large-volume cardiac surgery center, a world leader in its field, with a history of innovation and a distinguished scientific and academic record.
